Comparison of several repair methods for frame arch


1. Machining division


The online machining method is to remove the material by machining, remove the damaged layer on the surface of the archway, level the contact surface, and increase the thickness of the lining plate to compensate for the enlarged size. This repair method is simple and convenient to operate, but it does not change the properties of the arch surface. After a period of use, the arch surface will be corroded and worn, and the repeated machining will have a negative impact on the strength and stiffness of the arch. Considering the sensitivity of finishing mill to stiffness, there is not much machining allowance, so the repair method can only be expedient.


2. Arc surfacing


The arc surfacing method is to restore the enlarged size of the material removed after machining, and to build up a layer of anti-corrosion and wear-resistant material by on-site arc surfacing, so as to change the surface properties of the archway and improve the service life of the archway. Large area arc surfacing on rigid structure such as archway may cause deformation of archway structure. If the structure is distorted and unstable, it will be fatal and can not be corrected. This is absolutely not allowed in factory production. Therefore, this repair method will bring great risks, and is generally not used.


3. Laser surface cladding


Laser surface cladding is characterized by high energy density, dense cladding quality, high bonding strength, low dilution ratio of cladding layer structure and small heat affected zone. Laser surface cladding is non-contact processing and the heat input is controllable. The standard laser repair method can solve the welding residual stress and cracking tendency caused by other welding methods. Therefore, the laser cladding method can not only avoid the corrosion resistance of the substrate, but also reduce the corrosion resistance of the substrate Moreover, the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the archway are improved.


The main causes of mill housing wear are as follows: 1. Metal fatigue wear; 2. Cooling water corrosion; 3.
